Time is winding down, and the new year is almost here! Today, the team at NPPC reflects on the accomplishments in preserving retirement security for working men and women and goals for 2023.

Kendal Killian, Executive Director:

As the newest NPPC team member, my highlight in 2022 was joining this fantastic organization and rejoining the public employee pension movement, an issue I am passionate about. As the son of a longtime member of the Duluth Federation of Teachers and a former public employee myself, I look forward to traveling the country in 2023 and meeting the heroic public servants delivering vital services during this turbulent time.

Andrew Collier, Regional Campaign Director:

After six years of working at NPPC, I have never been more excited to work with such a great team. Last year, we fought many protective and proactive battles to ensure that public employees continue to retire securely with a defined-benefit pension. In 2023, we’ll continue the great work we’ve been doing with our state and national partners and public employees from all walks of life.

Ariel McConnell, Digital Media Specialist:

It has been a year since I joined the team at NPPC. My highlight of 2022 was the opportunity this position has granted me and allowing me to be a part of such an important cause. Coming from a family of public employees who dedicated their lives to their communities, to now be in a position where I can advocate for a secure retirement on behalf of hard-working men and women has been a very fulfilling and rewarding experience. In 2022 I learned so much about the pension and labor world. In 2023, my goal is to take the tools I have been equipped with and really get to work and make a difference in working people’s lives now and for generations to come.

Maria French, Digital Media Specialist:

As I round out my first full year with NPPC, I must say that the highlight of 2022 for me was immersing myself in advocacy for public workers across the country–including the public employees in my very own community and in my family. This year was one of growth and learning for me, full of great opportunities to stretch myself beyond my comfort zone. In 2023, I aim to develop new and exciting ways to #ProtectPensions for the millions of Americans who do so much to support our communities.
